Data Privacy Policy

I, Peter Dillon am the Data Controller and I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office. Details can be found on the Data Protection Public Register at https://ico.org.uk/ Registration number: ZA528936.

This policy contains legal and ethical requirements of practice regarding data protection and transparency of information storage and usage. I will ask you to sign a copy of this, along with the client contract during our initial session.

Information about you

Your personal information is stored securely and confidentially, either electronically, using codes with password protection or in paper format which is stored in a locked filing box.

The data collected is used to enable effective communication during the therapeutic process.

It may become necessary to share your data with other agencies but only under exceptional circumstances such as:

  1. If I believe there is a risk of harm to you or others.
  2. Where I am obliged by law to break confidentiality, examples of this are; compliance with a court order, concerns over child protection and information or knowledge disclosed regarding fraud, drug trafficking or acts of terrorism.

This would only been done in extreme circumstances and I will always try to discuss with you first before taking any action.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of your personal information, also the right to ask me to amend or change any incorrect information about you. This information will be provided to you in no more than twenty working days.

You have the right to object to any personal data being collected. If this is the case, we can discuss this further but we may not be able to work together because I am required to keep appropriate records in line with insurance and my ethical body BACP as well as for legal and safeguarding matters.

If you are concerned about the way that your information is being held please discuss this with me in the first instance. If you are still unhappy, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

General Data Protection Regulation Consent

Under the Data Protection Regulation as of 25th May 2018; I, Peter Dillon need your consent to process personal data. Please tick the relevant boxes if you are willing to grant consent. You can withdraw your consent to any of these purposes at any time by speaking with me directly or emailing info@therapyforthejourney.co.uk

I confirm that I have received a copy of the Data Privacy Policy outlining how my personal data will be processed.

I consent to my sensitive personal data being used by Peter Dillon to provide me with therapeutic counselling as required for the reasons set out in the Data Privacy Policy.

I understand that at the conclusion of the counselling process, Peter Dillon will hold my data for five years from the conclusion of the counselling process at which point all data will be deleted or destroyed accordingly.
